StoriedLife: Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the StoriedLife website, mobile applications, web applications, conversational AI platform, printed books, and all related services (collectively, the “Service”), operated by StoriedLife AI Corp. (“StoriedLife,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).

By creating an account, accessing the Service, or submitting any content, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

1. About StoriedLife

StoriedLife provides an AI-enabled platform for documenting, reflecting on, and preserving personal life stories. The Service allows you to have voice or text conversations with an AI interviewer, upload photographs, and receive professionally written memoir chapters based on your words. Stories are organized into chapters and can be compiled into a printed or digital book.

The Service is not a substitute for professional legal, medical, financial, psychological, or therapeutic advice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of a parent, elder, or another individual, you represent that you have obtained their lawful permission to do so and that you accept these Terms on their behalf.

3. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to keep your account information accurate and up to date. StoriedLife may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.

4. User Content

“User Content” includes any text, audio, voice recordings, photographs, metadata, memories, stories, or other materials you submit to the Service.
4.1 Ownership
You retain full ownership of your User Content. StoriedLife does not claim ownership over your stories or media.
4.2 Licence to StoriedLife (Service-Only Use)
To operate the Service, you grant StoriedLife a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, process, transcribe, analyze, format, and display your User Content solely to provide and improve the Service. This licence does not permit StoriedLife to sell or commercially license your stories. In the event of a corporate acquisition, any successor entity will be bound by the same restrictions on use of your content as set out in these Terms.
4.3 Anonymized Data for Service Improvement
You agree that StoriedLife may use anonymized and aggregated data derived from your content (with all personal identifiers removed) to improve algorithms, enhance performance, or conduct analytics. We will never reveal your identity in these datasets.
4.4 Third-Party Content & Rights
You represent and warrant that:

You have all necessary rights and permissions to upload User Content.
If your content includes the likeness, story, or information of others, you have obtained their permission.
Your content does not infringe any copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights.

You agree to indemnify StoriedLife for claims arising from User Content you submit.

5. Voice Conversations & Audio Processing

A core feature of the Service is live voice conversation with an AI interviewer. When you use voice features, the following occurs:

Real-time transcription: Your audio is streamed in real time to Deepgram, Inc. for speech-to-text transcription. Audio is processed as a live stream and is not permanently retained by StoriedLife or Deepgram after transcription is complete.
AI response generation: The resulting text transcript is processed by Anthropic PBC or OpenAI, LLC to generate the interviewer’s responses and, subsequently, your written story chapters.
Text-to-speech: The interviewer’s responses are converted to audio using OpenAI’s text-to-speech service and played back to you. These audio files are transient and not stored.
Conversation transcripts: The text transcript of your conversation is stored securely in your account and used to generate your story. You may delete it at any time.

By using voice features, you consent to the real-time streaming and processing of your voice by these third-party services as described above. If you prefer not to use voice, the Service is also available in text-input mode.

6. AI-Generated Content

The Service uses AI to generate stories, chapter drafts, writing suggestions, and interview prompts (“AI-Generated Content”) based on your conversations and inputs.

AI-Generated Content may be imperfect, inaccurate, incomplete, or reflect unintended nuances. You are solely responsible for reviewing and editing AI-Generated Content before sharing, printing, or publishing it. StoriedLife makes no warranties regarding the accuracy or completeness of AI output.

All AI-Generated Content produced from your inputs belongs to you, subject to the licence in Section 4.2.

7. Family Circle & Story Sharing

The Service includes a Family Circle feature that allows you to share your stories with designated family members or trusted individuals (“Family Members”).

Access method: Family Members access shared content via a personalized link. They do not need to create a StoriedLife account. Access is tied to the link you share with them.
Permission levels: You control what Family Members can see and do, including read-only access or the ability to leave comments. You may revoke access at any time from your account settings.
Content responsibility: You are responsible for determining which stories and chapters are shared with Family Members. Stories marked as private are not visible to Family Members.
Family Member conduct: Family Members using the Service through a shared link are subject to these Terms with respect to their use of the content. They may not download, redistribute, or commercially use your stories without your permission.
Gift subscriptions: Annual plan subscribers may gift a StoriedLife subscription to another person. The gift sender may be automatically added to the recipient’s Family Circle upon redemption, allowing them to follow the recipient’s memoir journey. Both parties will be notified.

8. Printed Books & Digital Exports

You may order printed books or digital exports (PDFs, e-books) of your memoir through the Service.
8.1 Production & Delivery
Printed books are produced by Lulu Enterprises, Inc., a third-party print-on-demand vendor. When you place a print order, your story content is transmitted to Lulu solely to fulfil that order. Delivery times are estimates and may vary by location.
8.2 User Review
You are responsible for reviewing all content before placing a print or export order. StoriedLife is not responsible for errors resulting from content you approved.
8.3 Replacement Policy
If a printed item arrives defective or damaged, we will arrange a reprint or refund in accordance with our replacement policy. Contact support@storiedlife.ai within 30 days of receipt.

9. Subscriptions, Billing & Cancellation

Some features of the Service require a paid subscription.
9.1 Automatic Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel beforehand.
9.2 Billing
You authorize StoriedLife to charge your selected payment method for all applicable fees, including recurring subscription fees and add-ons (such as e-book exports). Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.
9.3 Gift Subscriptions
Annual plan subscribers may purchase a StoriedLife subscription as a gift. Gift subscriptions are delivered by email on a scheduled date and are redeemed by the recipient creating or linking an account. Gift subscriptions are non-refundable after redemption.
9.4 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time in your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain full access until that date.
9.5 Refunds & 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your StoriedLife subscription, you may request a full refund of your initial subscription charge within 30 days of that charge. Email support@storiedlife.ai from the address associated with your account. Refunds are issued to your original payment method within 5–10 business days. The guarantee applies to your first subscription purchase only.

Excluded from the guarantee refund:

The print and shipping cost of any physical book that has already been produced or shipped.
Gift subscriptions after redemption by the recipient (see §9.3).
Subscription renewals beyond the initial 30-day window.

Upon refund, your subscription and all paid AI services (voice conversations, story generation, photo enhancement, book printing, Family Circle sharing) are terminated immediately. Your existing stories, photos, and conversation transcripts remain available for download during the 30-day data-export window described in §11.2, after which your account and content are deleted.

Beyond the 30-day guarantee window, and unless required by applicable law:

No refunds are issued for partial billing periods.
Prepaid fees are non-refundable.

10. Data Storage & Third-Party Processors

Your content and personal data are stored on servers operated by Amazon Web Services, Inc. (“AWS”). Data may be stored in AWS data centres located in the United States or Canada. If your data is stored outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is stored, including lawful access by foreign governments.
StoriedLife uses the following third-party service providers that may process your personal data in order to deliver the Service:

Anthropic PBC — AI language model (story generation, conversation)
OpenAI, LLC — AI language model, text-to-speech, and image processing
Deepgram, Inc. — Real-time voice transcription
Amazon Web Services, Inc. — Cloud infrastructure and file storage
Stripe, Inc. — Payment processing
Lulu Enterprises, Inc. — Print-on-demand book production
Resend, Inc. — Transactional email delivery

Each provider is contractually required to process your data only as necessary to perform their service and in accordance with applicable privacy laws. We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

11. Data Retention, Export & Account Closure

11.1 Data Export
You may download your stories and content in supported formats at any time from your account settings.
11.2 Account Deletion
Upon requesting account deletion, StoriedLife will:

Remove or anonymize your personal data within 30 days.
Provide a 30-day export window before deletion is finalized.
Retain encrypted backups for up to 90 days for security and legal compliance purposes, after which they are permanently deleted.

11.3 Family Circle Access After Deletion
Upon account deletion, all Family Circle access links will be deactivated. Family Members will no longer be able to view your content.
11.4 Inheritance & Successor Access
You may designate an authorized heir or trusted person to access your account in the event of your death or incapacitation. Legal documentation may be required. Contact support@storiedlife.ai to make this arrangement.

12. Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

Violate any applicable laws or regulations while using the Service.
Upload content that is harmful, hateful, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes third-party rights.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or misuse the Service’s AI models or technology.
Upload malware, viruses, or any code designed to interfere with the Service.
Create accounts for others without their informed consent.
Interfere with the security, performance, or integrity of the Service.
Use the Service to collect or harvest personal data about other users.

13. B2B & Enterprise Partners

If you access StoriedLife through a senior-living community, care facility, employer, or other organization (“Enterprise Partner”):

Enterprise Partners may receive anonymized, aggregated insights about usage.
Enterprise Partners cannot access your story content without your explicit permission.
A separate Enterprise Agreement governs the relationship between StoriedLife and the Enterprise Partner.

14. Intellectual Property

All StoriedLife software, branding, design, AI systems, and technology belong to StoriedLife AI Corp. or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer the Service. Your User Content remains yours.

15. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. StoriedLife does not guarantee uninterrupted service, accuracy of AI outputs, prevention of data loss, printing perfection, or that the Service will meet your particular expectations.

The Service is not a substitute for professional legal, medical, financial, or therapeutic advice.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

StoriedLife is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you will not exceed the total amount you paid to StoriedLife in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Where applicable law restricts these limitations, the maximum permissible limitation applies.

17. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StoriedLife AI Corp., its employees, officers, directors, and partners against any claims, losses, or damages arising from: your User Content; your misuse of the Service; your violation of these Terms; or your infringement of any third-party rights.

18. Modification of Terms

StoriedLife may update these Terms periodically. If changes are material, we will notify you by email or in-app alert at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

19. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved through binding arbitration administered in Toronto, Ontario, unless prohibited by applicable law. You waive the right to participate in class-action proceedings with respect to the Service, to the extent permitted by law.
